Infrastructure & Transport
The Left Party supports the growth of both the transport and infrastructure industries and believes that, although little action is happening presently, they are areas to be closely monitored. Our primary focus is making transport in Victoria easier and safer for the people. The Left Party believes that the implementation of the exciting new Victorian North-East Link notion (particularly corridor C) is a more useful and economical road to construct than the East-West Link but that the option of the eventual completion of the East-West Link should not be disregarded forever.

Fiscal
Recently, Australia has been wedged into tight financial constraints. At Left, we recognise this and seek to deconstruct the vast Australian national debt. In order for Australia to be truly free, we must first lose our national debt. Public fiscal liabilities have existed in this country of ours for many years and one way we seek to reconcile this is to ensure that big businesses are paying their fair share of tax, and not laundering money overseas. Another benefit of taxing big businesses is that we are able to increase funding for causes that really need it; both education and disability will be supported. In Australia, first time home buyers are finding it very difficult to break into the market. By lowering negative gearing and limiting foreign investment this will allow for first tome home buyers to purchase a house.

Immigration
The Left Party believes that immigration is one of the key elements attributing to our well-deserved national pride. While we are able, we endeavour to help as many refugees as possible and break through the stigma that refugees are all terrorists. We feel that government restriction on the recognition of highly skilled immigrants sets us, as a nation, teetering dangerously on the edge of becoming a protectionist society, a notion the Left Party could not support less. We believe that employment should be attained based on qualification for immigrants and those born here. As we are a monolingual nation, the Left Party believes that English proficiency of paramount importance for any new Australian. It is our intention to offer intensive language courses for those entering the nation depending on their level of proficiency within the first 18 months as an Australian. A multicultural Australia is rallied for strongly by the Left Party and language is a great stepping stone in the right direction.

Defence
Protecting our nation's borders is something that Left prioritises highly. We believe it is crucial to have a foothold in the activities of our borders - imports and exports - while also maintaining friendships with nearby and international nations. We plan to increase support for the servicemen and women who protect our country, day in day out. By maintaining relationships with global powers such as the USA, China, Russia and more, we are able to continue to be a country seen on the world stage. To Left, it is extremely important to keep our nation and our people safe through border protection and defence.

Environment
Australia has a vastly diverse environment. It is important that we protect it now rather than later when it is otherwise late. Tasmania’s forests are unique to Tasmania, yet they are logged. The logging of these forests must stop. At Left we are advocating for environmental protection to be delegated within the forests in order to save them. It is also very important that all Australian waterways are protected; including Thomson’s Dam, the Great Barrier Reef and water in northern Queensland. Coal pollution in northern Queensland must be monitored and stopped, in order to protect our waterways. All of these natural Australian icons are unique and we must protect them.

Education
The Left Party believes in access to quality education for all Australians, young and old. By increasing funding for areas such as private schooling and special education institutions, we open the doors to many people accessing education. Government funding has been lacking in these areas in recent times, and we aim to change that. After education in primary and secondary schools, tertiary education is offered to many people, but some have to relinquish the opportunity due to financial burdens. We, as a government, will re-introduce free tertiary education to give all Australians access to higher education. Education is one of the most important things in our society, and the Left Party will aim to provide better education for Australians.

Employment
When it comes to employment, The Left Party supports equality and availability in all situations. It is our hope that by 2030 a naturally even ratio of genders in the workplace in place. We hope that by this time quotas won’t be necessary and our society will have achieved this goal on its own. Improving opportunities for is of paramount importance to the Left Party. Young people with access to education and employment, we hope to encourage the rise of a motivated and successful generation of employees to help maintain Australia’s position in the growing global economy. We also plan to reach a comfortable middle ground in terms of penalty rates (setting Sunday rates at 150%).
