The Left Party believes in access to quality education for all Australians, young and old. See below for our latest policies.
INCREASED FUNDING FOR PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Private schools, in recent times, have been under strain due to a lack of funding and support from the government. Our party’s policy is to implement an increase in the funding for these schools to allow them to continue to provide quality education. It is important that these schools have funding to continue to provide the education they deem necessary; whether that be aligned with different religion, race or other factor. Many families and students rely on these institutions to provide the forms of education that they do, and we realise this need. An increase in funding will allow these families to continue to send their children to such institutions without a colossal financial burden on the family. It will also allow private schools to reduce their fees and for more students and families to choose where they are educated.
The Productivity Commission in 2017 released a report showing the figures of funding for education and where it is distributed. $40.3 million is currently being sent to public schools compared to just $12.8 million of Commonwealth funding being given to private schools. These figures are worrying for those involved in the private school sector, and we plan to implement policies to breach the gap and achieve funding equality for all schools.
Although there may be some opposition from secular schools and people associated with these schools, it is important to realise the ever-growing need. As part of this policy to increase funding for private education institutions, we also promise to never decrease the amount of funding given to government education institutions. This policy works towards a fair and equal Australia. Australia's rich culture and diversity means that funding has to be distributed into sectors, including private schools. Altogether the increase in funding for private schools will be beneficial for all, especially those associated with private schools.

INCREASED FUNDING FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
Over the years of varied Australian governments, special education institutions have been neglected and their funding from the government was not allowing them to be sustained. As part of providing equal opportunity for Australians to have a quality education, we will increase funding to these institutions. This allows students with both mental and physical handicaps to receive the one-on-one education that they require. By increasing funding, we are enabling more qualified teachers to guide these individuals through an important time in their lives.
Australia is a multicultural and diverse country, with many different individual personalities. As part of equality and freedom, it is important that all Australians, no matter their capabilities, have access to many things, one being education. Although some may not feel it is necessary for this demographic of people to have such support, it is an important part of working towards a fair Australia. These students need not only basic education, such as literacy, numeracy and writing, but also access to extra-curricular activities that further develop their skills and knowledge. The increase in funding will enable more and more facilities and resources to be provided for these extra-curricular activities. Our party intends to work to progressively increase the funding overtime and believe it will be extremely beneficial.

FREE TERTIARY EDUCATION
Our aim at Left is to bring back free tertiary education and to subsequently ensure it is more accessible for Australian students. This issue is extremely relevant to Australia's origins and our goal of achieving Furthism. Free tertiary education provides equal opportunities for all and gives them a freedom to pursue their true passion, without financial road blocks. The ideal of free tertiary education was taken away during the 80s and 90s due to the financial burden on the government, but with our intelligent treasurer and policies we are able to re-introduce free tertiary education. This issue is sure to appeal to all people, as many Australians believe that equal opportunities are important. Free tertiary education will open doors for all Australians to be a part of the economy, returning more and more jobs to hard-working Australians.
Free tertiary education will benefit all people and we believe that it is important. All classes of people will benefit from an equal opportunity of access to tertiary education, without the worry of finances. We intend to periodically implement this change and aim to have it completely in effect within 5 years.
